A traditional working estancia featuring vast stretches of the Collon Cura River

This traditional working estancia of nearly 200,000 acres offers just 10 anglers vast access to the Rio Collón Curá—a sprawling, low gradient river offering scenic day-long float trips in modern drift boats with ample wading. Ranch River access features over 30 km with little to no fishing pressure, as you seldom see other anglers.

A working livestock ranch, polo pony farm, and fishing lodge, the Estancia grounds are abuzz with gauchos as fresh lamb and beef sizzle on the Asado fire. In fall, red stag populations roar in the crisp cool air as quail and wild boar roam the river shores.

Fishing

This semi-arid climate freestone is reminiscent of the Snake River, WY but void of other fishermen. You drift long beats with regular stops at riffles and braids to wade. Work a hatch or mine shorelines with terrestrials for acrobatic big water rainbows and bulky brown trout into double digits.

Accommodation

Quarters include the five-bedroom main house, an adjacent guest cottage, and the hunting lodge; all freshly renovated yet rich with Argentine authenticity. Fresh beef and produce accompanied by fine Mendoza wines are amply served around the Asado fire after cocktails in the fabled bar house.

Gear

Fast-action 5/6 weight rods/reels able to punch a line in a breeze delicately present a dry fly. For streamer fishing, 6/7 weight rods are used with intermediate or sinking lines. A gear list is provided with confirmation packages. Contact Frontiers for first-hand tackle and fly recommendations.

Trip Specifics

Southern Hemisphere trout season–lower semi-arid climate–runs November 1-May annually.

Lodge accommodates 10 guests. There are no non-fishing activities available.

Seasonal stag and quail hunting is available.

Guests fly commercial service from Buenos Aires to San Martin (Chapelco) or Bariloche. Drive times are approximately 1.5 hours from San Martin and 4 hours from Bariloche.

Quemquemtreu is easily combined with San Huberto, Tipiliuke, Limay River Lodge or Arroyo Verde for a diverse week of trout fishing in Northern Patagonia.

Rates

Rate for the 2023/2024 season is $1050 per person per night, based on double occupancy and shared fishing guide. Single supplements apply, contact Frontiers for more information. San Martin airport transfers included; other regional transfers quoted upon booking. Fishing license included.
