Vididalsa (salmon & char)

VERY BEAUTIFUL WITH BIGGER SALMON AND GREAT RUN OF ARCTIC CHAR

Vididalsa is known for its stunning, fat, bigger fish as well as its variety of water. Draining a vast area of 1130 km2, there are 50 km of fishing on 100 pools. In its lower reaches the river runs through grassland, with a wide valley floor easily accessed by vehicle and requiring little walking. There are easy freestone pools with nice wading. Some of its upper reaches (optional from a fishing point of view) are in a beautiful canyon with stunning pools. As if that is not enough, there are miles of fishing on the Fitja tributary to enjoy with equally big fish, a real challenge to land!

Fishing

The riffled hitch and skated collie or sunray are the standard flies and techniques which speak well for a river known for big fish. Imagine a 17lb minter taking your tiny skated fly off the top and ripping off down the river. All the other small patterns work well too. Delicate presentation is key.

Accommodation

Set overlooking the lower grasslands, the lodges is now one of the top in Iceland with a spacious sitting and dining room. All bedrooms are ensuite, six big rooms and eight smaller rooms, but all perfectly comfortable. With only 8 rods fishing there are extra rooms for rod sharers.

Gear

7wt single hander and a small double hander such as a 12ft or switch rod. Be sure you have a weight-forward floating line (long bellied for ease of roll-casting) on your single-handed rod or a Spey-line that presents gently with your double-hander. The most common tippet strength is 8 to 15lbs.

Trip Specifics

Located in the north-west of Iceland, Vididalsa is only 20 mins from the Asum airstrip (light charter aircraft only) and 30 minutes from the town of Blondous. Keflavik International Airport is 4 hrs away therefore an overnight stay is required before (unless on the eary flight in to Iceland) and after to avoid missing fishing. You can fly into Reykjavik airport by private jet which is about 3 hours away. The Vididalsa works well combined with Blanda nearby, Thvera or Kjarra, and the Sog as a stretch. It is possible fish these rivers and get to Vidi in time for the afternoon fishing session.

Rates

Every trip to Iceland is different with a varying number of days fishing, possibly in different areas staying in different lodges and with or without non-fishing extensions. Therefore, every trip is by quotation once planned based on your choices and preferences as well as choice of accommodation.
